Manchester United are back in action on Sunday afternoon against Brighton and Hove Albion in the FA Cup
Manchester United are in the hunt for a new head coach after parting ways with Ruben Amorim. They drew 2-2 away at Burnley last time out in the league. Striker Benjamin Sesko scored twice for them against the Clarets at Turf Moor.
The Red Devils are currently sat in 7th place in the Premier League table after 21 fixtures. They are three points off Liverpool in 4th as they aim to get into the Champions League. Next up for the North West giants is an FA Cup third round clash against Brighton and Hove Albion on Sunday afternoon.
Manchester United latest regarding Elliot Anderson links
United have been linked with a move for Nottingham Forest midfielder Elliot Anderson along with the likes of Manchester City, Chelsea and Bayern Munich. However, The Athletic journalist David Ornstein has shared this update, as per X: “(There'll be) no January move, that goes without saying. It would be too high a price. I don't know how easy it would be from a PSR, financial fair play perspective.
“You also need squad space, if you're bringing in somebody like that. He's already earning in excess of £100,000 per week, so you're going to have to take him higher. Nottingham Forest have zero appetite to trade him right now. The summer is a different story, every player has their price. We're hearing figures, £80-£100 million, maybe even more."
The Red Devils will need to wait until the summer in their pursuit of Anderson. He is under contract at Nottingham Forest until June 2029. Therefore, they are under no pressure to sell him yet and can afford to wait for the right price.
Why Nottingham Forest ace Elliot Anderson would be ideal for Manchester United
United will see Anderson as someone to boost their midfield department. If he joined, he would inject more quality into their options in the middle of the park. In addition, he could battle it out with the likes of Bruno Fernandes, Casemiro and Manuel Ugarte, among others, for a place in their starting XI.
The England international, who has six caps to his name, was snapped up by Nottingham Forest back in 2024. He has since become a key player and they will be desperate to keep hold of him for as long as possible. It seems inevitable that he will move on from the Reds at some point in the near future though amid attention from elsewhere. The Three Lions boss Thomas Tuchel has recently said: “He is an elite player with the right attitude and a lot of talent. He is fulfilling his role in the best way possible so we are very happy with him."
He has made 67 appearances in all competitions for them to date, 25 of which have come in this campaign, and he has scored three goals. The North East-born man started his career at Newcastle United and rose up through their academy. He was a regular for the Toon Army at various different youth levels as a youngster.
Anderson was loaned out to Bristol Rovers in 2022 to get some experience under his belt and he helped the Gas win promotion from League Two. He then broke into the Magpies’ first-team and played 55 matches. They will be regret their decision to sell him to Nottingham Forest now though.
