Manchester United have until the end of the January transfer window to bring in some new faces
Manchester United are back in action on Sunday afternoon with an FA Cup clash against Brighton and Hove Albion. A place in the fourth round awaits the winner at Old Trafford. The Red Devils head into the game off the back of their 2-2 draw away at Burnley last time out in the Premier League.
Striker Benjamin Sesko scored twice against the Clarets at Turf Moor. The North West outfit are sat in 7th place in the table after 21 fixtures. They are only three points off the top four.
Manchester United target Blackburn Rovers ace Igor Tyjon
United have ‘joined’ Arsenal in the ‘race’ for Blackburn Rovers youngster Igor Tyjon, according to The Sun. The Red Devils have the chance to bring in some new faces before the end of the transfer window. They also have the opportunity to let some players head out the exit door as well over the coming weeks before the deadline to free up space and funds.
Tyjon, 17, is said to have rejected the offer of a professional deal at Ewood Park in favour of a switch to the top flight amid attention from elsewhere. His scholarship terms in Lancashire expire at the end of the season and his situation is up in the air at the moment. His current club would be due some compensation if he left.
The teenager was on the books at Rochdale before his move to Blackburn in 2023. He has since been a regular for Rovers at various different youth levels. The attacker has made three appearances for their first-team in all competitions to date, one of which has come this term.
Will Manchester United sign Igor Tyjon from Blackburn Rovers?
United will need to see off competition from Arsenal if they are to snap up Tyjon. If he joined, he would likely initially link up with their development squad. He would then be looking to break into their senior set-up down the line.
Tyjon appears to have a bright future ahead of him in the game. Blackburn won’t want to lose him, especially at such a young age and halfway through a campaign. However, their hands will be tied if a bigger team comes calling for his signature.
The Southport-born man was handed his debut by former manager John Eustace back in 2024 at just 16 against Bristol City. At the time, Eustace said: "Igor has been a standout young player since I have been at the football club. He had a fantastic pre-season. He's just played for England in the week. I was delighted to give him his debut today. He has worked, very, very hard. He's a 16-year-old boy and we have to remember that. He is certainly one for the future."
United’s upcoming tie against Brighton could present them with the chance to play some fringe players and youngsters. It will be a tough test against the Seagulls and they will see the FA Cup as a trophy that they can realistically win.
