The former Liverpool player has revealed his desire to return to the continent.
Fabinho Tavares joined Liverpool in 2018, and the holding midfielder went on to become a vital cog in Jurgen Klopp’s machine, as the Reds stormer to every trophy available to them during the German’s tenure.
After five years, Fabinho’s performances had dipped in quality, and Jurgen Klopp deemed it best to oversee Fabinho’s departure from the club, as his side oversaw a midfield reshuffle.
In that summer of 2023, Fabinho, Jordan Henderson and James Milner all left the club, with Dominik Szoboszlai, Alexis Mac Allister Ryan Gravenberch and Wataru Endo brought in as their replacements.
During a recent interview with Marca, Fabinho reflected on his time at Liverpool, saying:
“My time at Liverpool was incredible. I have a great affection for the club. Winning the Champions League was very big.”
“In the Premier League we scored 97 points and we didn’t win it by a point, but the relationship with the players on and off the field that year was spectacular.”
“I spent five years at Liverpool and won everything.”
After departing Liverpool, Fabinho signed for Saudi Pro League side Al-Ittihad.
He has re-found form in Saudi Arabia and has even worked his way back into his national team plans, as he featured for Brazil for the first time in two years during the international break in November last year.
The holding midfielder’s contract with Al-Ittihad ends in June, and when quizzed about what his next step is, he revealed his desire to return to European football.
“It’s the first time I’ve reached the end of a contract. A club has always arrived and bought me. I’m not in a hurry to solve the situation, but I know that in the coming weeks I will have to see options with my representative.”
“I’m very happy at Al-Ittihad and I have to value everything. I would like to return to Europe, now or in the future. I want to try new things.”
“In the Spanish league I played 20 minutes, but it would be something new too. The truth is that I have the illusion of returning to Spain.”
“But I’m calm and I’ll see what’s best for my family and me.”
