The summer signing has missed Liverpool’s last two games.

Hugo Ekitike has been a consistent force in a struggling Liverpool team this season.

December was a particularly brilliant month for him.

The Frenchman scored back-to-back braces against Leeds United and Brighton, following that up with a winner away at Tottenham Hotspur.

He featured in Liverpool’s next two against Wolves and Leeds Unite dbut failed to provide a goal contribution.

As Liverpool were gearing up for a trip to London to face Fulham, it was revealed that Hugo Ekitike had picked up a minor fitness issue and had been ruled out.

It was later confirmed to be a hamstring issue, but Arne Slot eased mind with the revelation that it wasn’t a serious one.

Hugo Ekitike has now missed two games, against Fulham and Arsenal, and Arne Slot has now provided an injury update on the player ahead of the Barnsley game in the FA Cup tomorrow.

Arne Slot said: “Hugo, that is not 100 per cent sure but we will do everything to have him available on Monday.”

That puts Hugo Ekitike right back into contention to feature for Liverpool tomorrow in what will be a huge boost for the team.

Arne Slot also revealed his selection choices ahead of the game tomorrow, admitting he had learned from his mistakes last year.

Last season, despite all the success Arne Slot achieved, he was criticised for fielding a weak Liverpool side that disappointingly bowed out of the FA Cup in the third round to Plymouth Argyle.

Speaking ahead of tomorrow’s game, Slot said:

Last season I made the decision that some players needed to rest in the FA Cup because you cannot play every player every single time. But it’s obvious that we’re not in the League Cup anymore.”

The FA Cup has always been very important for us, but sometimes in a season where you still are competing for the League Cup, for the Champions League and the league – with the amount of players we had last season and have this season – you have to make choices.”

“But I can guarantee you that on Monday you will see all the players that you saw [on Thursday], maybe with some substitutions but then they will be on the bench. So that is going to be different than last season against Plymouth.”
