The moment Chelsea got rid of Enzo Maresca and appointed Liam Rosenior, we pointed to Jorrel Hato as a player who could benefit.
He was never fancied by Maresca, who had even started using Malo Gusto out of position at left back rather than trying out the Dutchman. But circumstances forced Hato onto the pitch against Fulham last week after Marc Cucurella’s red card, and the subsequent ban for the Spaniard meant another start for Hato last night.
The youngster didn’t just play well – he scored a superb opening goal with a thrashing volley. Speaking after the game, Rosenior sang his praises.

“He’s 19. I saw him play at Fulham. I was so impressed with him then. He’s taken that form on to another level today. Not just in terms of his goal. I felt his defensive attributes were top. His way that he settled the game down in possession, the way he defended one-v-one and still had the energy and speed to get forward to help us into attack.
“I know a lot of these players. They’re outstanding young players. It’s been a really, really good start for him but a really good start for all of them today with me.”
So far, so good for Jorrel. And this is great news for Cucurella too, who has been overplayed and needs a trusted backup to take the pressure off.
In other news…
Chelsea left out three key players from their squad last night, and after the game Liam Rosenior was asked about their injury status and whether they were a doubt for next week’s game against Arsenal.
Rosenior spoke about the front 3 who were in action and praised them for their efforts at a “tough place to go.”
