There was no fairy tale ending for Charlton Athletic in their FA Cup tie against Chelsea on Saturday.
Chelsea beat the Addicks 5-1, but Nathan Jones’ men did put up a fight for the majority of the match before they collapsed at the end.
The Blues took the lead through Jorrel Hato on the stroke of half-time before Tosin Adarabioyo doubled it just after the restart.

However, Miles Leaburn managed to pull one back and make it 2-1 shortly after. Mark Clattenburg thinks Charlton’s goal should have been disallowed, but it did not make any difference in the end.

Nathan Jones slams his Charlton side after Marc Guiu’s goal
It was Marc Guiu who grabbed Chelsea’s third goal at The Valley, leaving Jones far from happy.
The 52-year-old has now claimed that he will have “sleepless nights” after watching his side’s defending for that goal.
In his post-match press conference, which has been shared by Charlton’s official club website, Jones said: “The second and third goal killed us, and it was poor defending from the set play. We can’t allow him to run in front of us like that, and that is why they scored.

“We then got ourselves back into it, and then the third goal is the one I have sleepless nights over. It is stuff we have conceded from before; to concede from that, it was a non-learning and that for me is the biggest disappointment from tonight.”
Understandably, Jones was extremely frustrated with some of the defending he saw from Charlton. In contrast, Liam Rosenior was very pleased with his backline. Rosenior had nothing but praise for Hato after the left-back’s display.

How many goals has Marc Guiu scored this season following Charlton strike?
Rosenior will be glad that Guiu was on the pitch at The Valley. As already mentioned, Charlton fought back after going 2-0 down and got themselves back into the game, but Guiu ended their hopes of a comeback.
His goal against the Championship side was only his third of the season and second in a blue shirt.
Enzo Maresca rarely turned to the 20-year-old despite Liam Delap’s injury woes. In total, he made just one start in the Premier League under his former boss.
Guiu’s other two goals came in the Champions League and the Carabao Cup. The Spaniard was still on loan at Sunderland when he netted in the latter.
His recall has been pointless so far, but perhaps that will change under Rosenior.
