It is surprising that both of Barcelona’s first-choice right-backs are not natural players in the position, and have both transitioned from central defence to excelling on the flank.
Jules Kounde, after all, was one of the league’s best central defenders before his move from Sevilla while Eric Garcia continues to play in his natural centre-back position on demand while also covering on the right.
The Catalans, however, are keeping an eye on some of world football’s most talented young right-backs as a long-term option, and Mundo Deportivo bring to light one option they have spotted.

As relayed by the Spanish outlet, Barcelona are attentive to the situation of Daniel Banjaqui who is considered the best young right-back in Portugal.
Still just 17 years of age, he has already won the under-17 Euros and World Cup with his national team and is seen as one of the brightest young talents in his position. He currently plays for Benfica but is expected to make a big-money move soon.
Barcelona have already contacted the teenage sensation’s entourage and conveyed their interest in signing the player, although no further move has taken place as of now.
With the youngster turning 18 in a few months, Benfica are already working hard on convincing Banjaqui to sign a new contract and extend his stay with them. As of now, however, the player is refusing any such move.
It remains to be seen if the player is willing to make the jump up to the elite leagues at the age of 18 next summer, especially given the pressure that comes with it. Given his talent, however, Barcelona will take the chance.
After all, he could well be integrated into the Barça Atletic outfit first and slowly transitioned to the first team once he shows positive signs of adaptation.
