£19m Chelsea loanee suffers another injury after missing almost the entire 2024/25 season

Chelsea have many young players on loan at other clubs this season, including a £19 million signing.

The Blues have taken advantage of their relationship with Strasbourg, sending three players to the Ligue 1 team.

Meanwhile, they have also reached loan agreements with several clubs in the English football pyramid.

Unfortunately, a Chelsea midfielder on loan in League One has just suffered another injury, having missed most of last season.

Omari Kellyman suffers another injury

Omari Kellyman has gradually developed into one of Cardiff City’s key players since joining on loan from Chelsea last summer.

“I’m delighted with how things are going, and I’ve definitely had a positive few weeks finding that next gear,” he said recently, via BBC Sport.

However, Kellyman was substituted in the 42nd minute of Cardiff’s 1-1 draw away to Leyton Orient on Saturday due to injury.

The youngster has been very injury-prone so far in his short career, playing just three times for Chelsea’s under-21s last season.

Kellyman even had surgery on his hamstrings last March because they had been troubling him so much.

Cardiff have not yet confirmed the extent of his injury, but everyone at the Blues and the Bluebirds will hope that it is not serious.

From Chelsea’s perspective, even if he never becomes a first-team player, they would like to recoup some of the £19 million they paid for him.

Omari Kellyman rates Chelsea’s Liam Rosenior appointment

Omari Kellyman has also discussed Chelsea’s appointment of Liam Rosenior, as they have an existing relationship.

Kellyman does not know Rosenior well, but the two worked together for a brief spell at Derby County a few years ago.

“I have worked with the new Chelsea manager in the past when I was very young,” Kellyman explained.

“I’ve seen him in Derby as well. I think he was eating lunch with his wife, and I had a short conversation with him. So yeah, the relationship I had was alright.

“We’ve seen what he did at Strasbourg, so I think it’s great for the club.”

The attacking midfielder will be determined to finish the season strongly at Cardiff and work his way into Rosenior’s plans over the summer.
