A new defender may have just become an even bigger priority for Liverpool, and now might be the time for Arne Slot to dip into the January transfer market.

With Conor Bradley ruled out for the rest of the season, the Reds' options in defense have been further depleted, which might well spark them into action after what has been a quiet start to the window.

The continuing speculation over Marc Guehi will no doubt be catching their eye, and with reports now suggesting Crystal Palace's asking price, could Liverpool be tempted to make an early move for the soon-to-be free agent?

Here is the Liverpool.com verdict on the transfer gossip to emerge around the Reds today.

Marc Guehi (Crystal Palace)

Crystal Palace wants around $54M (£40M) in order to let Marc Guehi go this month, according to The Guardian.

The report comes amid ongoing speculation over the defender's future, with Arsenal now said to have joined the race. It's suggested though that any move from the Gunners would be more likely in the summer, when he would be available for free.

Manchester City is claimed to have expressed an interest in signing Guehi this month, while Liverpool is among the sides hoping to get him once his contract expires.

Liverpool.com says: If Palace is expecting that much with just six months left on Guehi's contract, it might be sorely disappointed. Considering it's more than what Liverpool agreed in the summer, you can't imagine the likes of City or Arsenal would allow themselves to pay over the odds now when they could get him for free if they just wait a little longer.

You'd have to imagine that Palace would be able to be talked down from that figure, if it is indeed accurate. Given reports are now suggesting Guehi plans on staying until the end of the season, we might start seeing that price come down now.

Jeremy Jacquet (Rennes)

Liverpool has joined the race for Rennes defender Jeremy Jacquet, according to Football Insider.

The Reds are said to have registered an interest in the 20-year-old, who is attracting plenty of interest from the Premier League, having established himself in the Ligue 1 side this season.

Arsenal and Chelsea are said to be in the running for his signature, while Manchester City and Real Madrid are also interested.

Liverpool.com says: It's telling that Arsenal and City are mentioned here again. It seems that whoever Liverpool has in mind for a new center-back, it's going to have to battle with those two.

A younger option certainly makes sense to act as a potential backup next season, when Van Dijk and hopefully Ibrahima Konate and Guehi will all be on board.
