Manchester United loanee Marcus Rashford is a trophy winner with Barcelona, and the timing is notable.

Rashford’s spell at Villa was mediocre, but it was a ‘means to an end’, getting him away from Manchester United.

The forward wanted a new challenge, and had been snubbed from Ruben Amorim‘s matchday squads, despite scoring the first goal under the new head coach.

Rashford secured another exit in summer 2025, signing on loan for Barcelona for the season, where he has begun to rebuild his career.

Now in the same week Ruben Amorim was sacked as Manchester United boss, Marcus Rashford is celebrating for his own personal reason.

Marcus Rashford is hoping this is just the first trophy in a silverware-laden season for his loan club.

Barcelona play Racing in the last 16 of the Copa del Rey later this week, looking to secure a quarter-final place.

They are also four points clear at the top of the La Liga table ahead of rivals Real Madrid, halfway through the season.

And in the Champions League, Barcelona are on track to qualify fo the knockout stages with two group matches remaining.

This is just the first step for Rashford, and for his first silverware to come in the week Ruben Amorim was sacked from Manchester United will feel like total vindication.

Rashford a bit-part player

Marcus Rashford is celebrating winning his first medal as a Barcelona player, but he cannot claim to have played a pivotal role in the final.

Rashford was left on the bench by manager Hansi Flick, and was only brought on in the 83rd minute.

He was the fourth Barcelona player brought on, after Dani Olmo, Ferran Torres and Gerard Martin earlier in the game.

Rashford came on after Barcelona had gone 3-2 up, and had limited time to make an impact.

He had one attempt at goal that sailed wide, managing 13 touches in total.

Rashford has scored just one goal for Barcelona since November 2.

This does not take away from his trophy success, but there is clearly room for improvement, and Rashford must find a way to become indispensable for Barcelona instead of an ancillary part.

WHO is your pick from Carrick, Solskjaer or Van Nistelrooy?🤔

All three have impressed as players and coaches at Old Trafford, which do you want as caretaker?
