Opinion: Behdad Eghbali hasn't learnt his lesson as Chelsea prepare to make transfer decision

Chelsea fans are not happy with Behdad Eghbali and Clearlake Capital right now and let them know that last week.

An anti-Clearlake Capital banner was unfurled during Chelsea’s 2-1 defeat to Fulham in the Premier League last Wednesday.

The Blues bounced back with an impressive 5-1 win against Charlton Athletic in the FA Cup, but Chelsea supporters still aimed some unpleasant chants at Eghbali.

What are your first impressions of Liam Rosenior’s tactics following Chelsea’s FA Cup win against Charlton?

What differences did you notice between his style and Enzo Maresca's? 👀

They have been left irate following the nature of Enzo Maresca’s departure, as well as the club’s transfer strategy.

Chelsea weighing up move for another young player with Abubacarr Sedi on their radar

Unfortunately for Chelsea supporters, it does not look like Eghbali and the club’s sporting directors are going to change the club’s transfer policy any time soon amid interest in 19-year-old Abubacarr Sedi.

Journalist Rudy Galetti has claimed on X that Chelsea are considering making a move for Sedi after approaching the young Gambian.

Assessing Liam Rosenior’s squad, it is lacking experience, especially in central defence. Tosin Adarabioyo is the oldest player in that area of the pitch and has spent most of the season on the bench.

Chelsea have spent more than £1bn on transfers since their takeover in 2022 but are miles away from challenging for the Premier League title. Who needs to be held to account and why? 💰

If Chelsea are going to challenge for the Premier League title, they need a veteran or two there. It is one reason why the Blues have become susceptible to throwing away leads. They are lacking a real commander to help them see out games.

Sedi is not that, at least not yet. Nothing is going to change if Chelsea continue to field a central defence of youngsters.

It was recently reported that Chelsea do want to sign a more experienced centre-back in the summer, but there have been few links to one. Rather, names such as Sedi keep popping up, suggesting that Eghbali, Laurence Stewart and Paul Winstanley are simply not learning as they continue to lean on a youth-first policy.

Chelsea need to sign more experienced defenders like Thiago Silva and Antonio Rudiger

There was a time when Chelsea were able to field a defence boasting the likes of Thiago Silva and Antonio Rudiger. They could really do with one of the two right now, if not both.

Silva and Rudiger are both set to be available in the summer. Silva recently signed for Porto until the end of the season, while Rudiger’s contract at Real Madrid expires in June.

If Eghbali has learnt anything from his short time as a football owner, he will tell Chelsea’s sporting directors to snap up one of them ahead of the 2026/27 campaign.
