Dennis Schroder responds to suspension over Luka Doncic incident

Dennis Schroder sarcastically reacted to the NBA's suspension announcement tied to his confrontation with Luka Doncic, while Trae Young summed up the controversy with a blunt reaction, writing, "This can't be real."

Sacramento Kings guard Dennis Schroder clearly isn't buying the NBA wording surrounding his recent suspension – and he made that known on social media.

After ESPN insider Shams Charania reported that Schroder had been suspended for "attempting to strike another player," the Kings guard reacted with sarcasm.

Commenting under Charania's Instagram post, Schroder simply wrote "Attempting," followed by laughing and eye emojis.

The NBA announced on Saturday that Schroder received a three-game suspension for "confronting and attempting to strike another player" following Sacramento's Dec. 28 loss to the Los Angeles Lakers.

Reports later clarified that the player involved in the incident was a five-time All-Star, Luka Doncic.

The situation quickly caught the attention of other NBA players as well.

"This can't be real," Trae Young commented under a separate social media post discussing the suspension.

According to the league's statement, Schroder allegedly sought out Luka in a hallway inside the arena roughly 40 minutes after the game had ended and initiated the confrontation.

Tensions between the two guards had reportedly been building throughout the night.

One notable exchange occurred during a timeout, when Doncic took a subtle jab at Schroder over his contract situation, telling him he "should've signed that contract" – a reference to the four-year, $82 million extension Schroder previously turned down from the Lakers.

As a result of the suspension, the German guard will be sidelined for Monday's matchup between the Kings and Lakers.

That rivalry dates back beyond the NBA. During the FIBA EuroBasket 2025 quarterfinals, Schroder led Germany to a comeback win over Slovenia, eliminating Doncic's national team from medal contention.

The loss sparked frustration from Slovenian players, who openly criticized the officiating.

Germany, meanwhile, went on to win the tournament, with Schroder ultimately being named EuroBasket MVP.
