The Marc Guehi transfer saga has become the gift that keeps on giving – frustration, that is. For Liverpool supporters already nursing wounds from last summer’s deadline day debacle, the prospect of Manchester City swooping in to steal their long-identified defensive target has sparked a mixture of exhaustion, anger, and genuine concern about the club’s recruitment strategy.
After months of watching this protracted transfer drama unfold, plenty of Reds are simply tired of hearing Guehi’s name without seeing him in a Liverpool shirt. And with City’s sudden interest threatening to derail any remaining hope, the transfer landscape surrounding the Crystal Palace captain has become increasingly complex and competitive.
Fabrizio Romano, speaking on his YouTube channel, has provided some silver lining however. The Italian transfer guru has asserted that Guehi himself wants to only move in the summer – playing into Liverpool’s hand.
“I can tell you that on Marc Guehi the real intention has always been to move in the summer on a free transfer, with Liverpool really pushing and Arsenal calling because Arteta is a big fan,” he said.
“These two clubs are insisting and Bayern are also having some meetings for Guehi, but now Upamecano is expected to sign a new contract. Manchester City have been clear, they want to try, they want to make an important proposal and they want to go strong for Marc Guehi in this January window. They will try next week.”
“If the player will accept, City are prepared to make an agreement with Crystal Palace. They don’t see any problems with that, but it’s on the player and his plan has always been to leave in the summer on a free. Let’s see what happens.”
