Newcastle United boss Eddie Howe hopes to have two of his injured players back for the clash with Manchester City tomorrow night at St James' Park.

Both Anthony Elanga and Jacob Murphy should be available for the encounter against Pep Guardiola's side for the Carabao Cup semi-final first leg.

But the game comes too early for Emil Krafth, while both Fabian Schar and Tino Livramento face more time with medics to determine their absence.

For the first time since he punctured his lung, Howe was able to provide a more accurate timeframe for Dan Burn.

Howe said: "The two wingers have a possibility. We'll see how they get on today. Dan will be a couple of weeks further back."

When asked for an update on Tino Livramento, who limped off against AFC Bournemouth in the FA Cup, Howe said: "No major update. He will be having a scan today at some point, and we'll understand the extent of the damage."

Speaking about Krafth's injury, Howe said: "He's a big miss for us. There's no major update. He's trying to come back from a knee problem.

"He's not feeling absolutely at his best currently. Day to day it feels slightly different, so I have no definitive return date.

"We're taking it day by day hoping he can improve. He's always been such a reliable performer and has that versatility we need.

"We're desperate for him back but we'll just have to see how long it takes."
