Arsenal have a decision to make regarding the immediate future of the player between now and the end of the transfer window
Arsenal have until the deadline on Monday 2nd February to complete any bits of incoming or outgoing business. They are back in action on Wednesday night with a Carabao Cup semi-final first leg tie against Chelsea at Stamford bridge. The Gunners head into that game off the back of their 4-1 win away at Portsmouth in the FA Cup over the weekend.
Gabriel Martinelli fired a hat-trick against Pompey at Fratton Park, whilst Andre Dozzell scored an own goal. Mikel Arteta are carrying momentum at the moment and are full of confidence. They remain top of the Premier League table above Manchester City and Aston Villa.
Arsenal defender Ben White wanted by Everton
Arsenal defender Ben White is being linked with a winter switch to Everton. According to Football Insider, the Toffees are ‘eyeing’ a move for the right-back. He has struggled for game time recently and his long-term future at the Emirates Stadium is up in the air.
White, 28, is under contract with the Gunners until June 2028 meaning he still has a couple of years left to run down. However, he has slipped down the pecking order under Mikel Arteta and isn’t a regular starter anymore. In fact, he has featured only five times in the league this season.
The England international, who has four caps to his name, joined Arsenal back in 2021 to boost their defensive department. They forked out a hefty £50million to secure his services and he penned a long-term deal. He has since made 173 outings, 26 of which came in the last campaign, and he has scored six goals from the back.
White was snapped up by Brighton and Hove Albion as a youngster following a spell in Southampton’s academy. He rose up through the academy of the Seagulls and was a regular for them at various different youth levels before going on to play 41 matches for their first-team before the Gunners came calling. The Poole-born man was also loaned out to Newport County, Peterborough United and Leeds United to get some experience under his belt.
Will Everton make move for Arsenal defender Ben White?
It wouldn’t be a surprise to see Everton launch a bid for White. They need a player in his position and he fits the bill for the Toffees. David Moyes has been forced to play Jake O’Brien as a full-back this term, with Seamus Coleman struggling for fitness and Nathan Patterson seemingly not fancied.
White would benefit from a change of scene to the Hill Dickinson Stadium and would get more minutes on Merseyside. Arsenal may have reservations about letting him leave at this stage though, despite his lack of action. If they sold him, it could leave them short.
He provides back-up to Jurrien Timber and if his teammate got injured, he would be needed. Therefore, the Gunners could look to keep hold of him until the summer at least as they battle it out with City and Aston Villa for the title. Everton may need to look elsewhere for alternatives.
