Micah Richards highlights elephant in the room at Chelsea, he's worried for Liam Rosenior

Such has been Chelsea’s ownership under Todd Boehly that Liam Rosenior took the job at Stamford Bridge despite being warned it was somewhat of a poisoned chalice.

Many have questioned why Rosenior would be willing to accept the Chelsea job. The manager himself says it is a job he could not turn down, that he would have no ambition if he opted to reject Chelsea.

Even if it does ruin job prospects. Graham Potter is now Sweden’s National Team manager, Mauricio Pochettino is USA’s gaffer and it feels unlikely Enzo Maresca will get a job on a similar level to Chelsea.

What are your first impressions of Liam Rosenior’s tactics following Chelsea’s FA Cup win against Charlton?

That is, despite Chelsea being one of the hardest jobs in world football. It is so hard, given the pressure, the demands from fans, and the ownership, that Micah Richards is already worried for Rosenior’s future.

Why Micah Richards is concerned for Liam Rosenior’s future

There is no doubting, however, Rosenior has made a great start. Superb in front of the camera and then securing a 5-1 win over Charlton in his first game. Next up is Arsenal in the Carabao Cup semi-finals.

Speaking on The Rest Is Football, Micah Richards questioned what Chelsea’s actual aims are this season and whether he thinks they are “realistic” enough and achievable enough for Rosenior to keep his job.

“The only worry is what do Chelsea want from him. Are they happy being just top four, challenging for the Champions League, winning the Europa League, I want to know what the bigger plan is for Chelsea.

“If their plan is to get into the top four and challenge for a trophy, I think he will do really well. I hope he does well and I think he will, as long as it’s a realistic plan,” Richards said, discussing Rosenior’s future.

Why Micah Richards has a ‘bone to pick’ with Richards

Before giving his verdict on Rosenior’s work as Chelsea manager, Richards said he has a “bone to pick” with the new Blues gaffer. He claims Rosenior did an interview that irked the former Man City defender.

Back when Richards has ‘burst onto the scene’ as a teenage defender into the England side at 18 and 19, Richards claims Rosenior did an interview suggesting he should be in the England side above Richards.

“I’ve got a bone to pick with Rosenior. When I made my England debut, 18 and 19 and I was in the team, he did an interview and said, ‘I see the people that are playing for England, I don’t think I’m that far away’.

Richards continued: “He suggested he should be playing ahead of me! I was like, ‘What?!'”, to which Gary Lineker and Alan Shearer inevitably replied: “He has a point Micah, he knows his stuff”.

Rosenior will take to the dugout for a second time on Wednesday when Chelsea host Arsenal in the first leg of the Carabao Cup semi-finals. Chelsea could be without Reece James, Cole Palmer and Malo Gusto.
