Liverpool continue to pursue a move for Crystal Palace and England ace Marc Guehi, with journalist Fabrizio Romano providing the latest on the situation.
The 25-year-old suffered arguably one of the worst days of his career over the weekend, with his Palace stunned by Macclesfield Town in the FA Cup third round on Saturday afternoon.
It hasn’t done much to alter Guehi’s reputation, however, with Liverpool one of many top clubs constantly linked with signing him, having so nearly acquired his signature last summer.
Now, speaking on his YouTube channel [via Rousing The Kop], Romano claimed that a summer exit from Palace is more likely than a January departure, with the Reds still pushing to sign him:
“I can tell you that on Marc Guehi the real intention has always been to move in the summer on a free transfer, with Liverpool really pushing and Arsenal calling because Arteta is a big fan.
“These two clubs are insisting and Bayern are also having some meetings for Guehi, but now Upamecano is expected to sign a new contract. Manchester City have been clear, they want to try, they want to make an important proposal and they want to go strong for Marc Guehi in this January window. They will try next week.”
Will Guehi’s preference have changed from last summer?
It was clear that Guehi wanted Liverpool last summer, having agreed a £35m move and passed a medical, and him staying loyal to the Premier League champions would be ideal.
Granted, the England ace hasn’t exactly given his word to the Reds that he will join them over others, from Manchester City to Real Madrid, but he hopefully still sees them as his No.1 choice at the end of the season.
Liverpool have dipped since winning the title, which hasn’t necessarily aided their chances of getting their man, but they remain a top-quality team fighting for the biggest trophies most seasons.
Guehi ticks so many boxes for the Merseysiders, from his calm demeanour to his team ethic, and he can become a wonderful player for many years if he ultimately picks them in 2026.
