Stefan Bajcetic’s torturous battle with injuries has taken another cruel turn, with the promising Liverpool midfielder suffering yet another setback that has scuppered a potential loan deal this January.

The 21-year-old Spaniard, who burst onto the scene with such promise during the 2022-23 campaign, has endured a devastating three-year period ravaged by persistent physical problems. What began as an adductor tear in March 2023—just as he was establishing himself as a first-team regular—has snowballed into a relentless cycle of setbacks

Bajcetic underwent hamstring surgery during the summer of 2025 in hopes of finally putting his injury woes behind him. However, just as the midfielder targeted a return to first-team contention before Christmas, a fresh hamstring complication emerged in early January, forcing him onto a new rehabilitation programme and ruling him out until at least the end of the month.

The timing couldn’t have been worse. According to Diario Sport, Girona had identified Bajcetic as their primary midfield target for the January window, with manager Michel believing the Catalan club would be the ideal environment for the youngster to revive his stalling career. The Spanish side was keen to secure a loan deal for the remainder of the 2025-26 season.

However, due to the hamstring injury, the City Group club was forced to look at alternatives, with Inter Milan’s Kristjan Asllani emerging as their new priority.

Since his breakthrough season where he made 19 appearances under Jurgen Klopp, Bajcetic has barely featured for Liverpool’s senior side. Loan spells at RB Salzburg and Las Palmas during 2024-25 offered glimpses of his quality, particularly during his time in Spain where he impressed despite Las Palmas’ relegation. Bajcetic hasn’t played a competitive fixture in eight months.
