Liverpool had earmarked Bradley Barcola as their preferred alternative if a move for Alexander Isak couldn’t be secured during the summer transfer window, with Fabrizio Romano confirming the Paris Saint-Germain winger was viewed as “a world-class player” and genuine opportunity by the Reds’ hierarchy.

The 23-year-old French international, who exploded onto the scene last campaign with 21 goals and 21 assists across 64 appearances, represented an attractive proposition for Arne Slot’s fluid attacking system. However, PSG immediately shut down any departure talk, making it clear their prized asset was strictly not for sale.

Fast forward to the 2025-26 season, and Barcola’s situation at the Parc des Princes has become considerably more complicated.

The winger has registered just five goals and two assists in 21 appearances across all competitions, a significant drop-off from his stellar previous campaign. More tellingly, he’s started only eight of PSG’s last 14 Ligue 1 matches, finding himself squeezed out by the fierce competition for places in Luis Enrique’s star-studded attack.

Now, in a move that will alert Liverpool and other Premier League suitors, PSG have tabled a formal contract extension offer to Barcola, according to RMC Sport. The Ligue 1 champions are determined to secure the future of one of their most marketable assets, with his current deal set to expire in June 2028 – leaving just 18 months remaining after this season concludes.

The club has submitted an initial proposal that would extend his stay beyond 2028, with discussions centering around a significant salary increase that could elevate him into PSG’s top earners bracket. However, negotiations have been complicated by Barcola’s recent change of representation, switching from Jorge Mendes to former midfielder Moussa Sissoko as his agent, which has caused slight delays in proceedings.

Crucially, Barcola and his entourage are yet to respond to PSG’s offer. The winger is reportedly assessing his situation and prefers to wait until the end of the season before making any definitive decision about his future. PSG, aware of the growing interest from Liverpool, Bayern Munich, and Arsenal, are keen to understand his intentions quickly so they can plan accordingly.
