Liverpool could bring in a new right-back following the latest Conor Bradley injury update
Liverpool are said to be considering signing a quick-fix replacement for Conor Bradley this transfer window following the news of his significant injury setback.
The right-back suffered a knee injury during the Reds’ latest Premier League clash with Arsenal and was forced off the pitch on a stretcher in stoppage time.
Martinelli has since apologised and revealed he has been in direct contact with Bradley since.
How long is Conor Bradley injured for?
Bradley is not expected to return to action for Liverpool this season, which is a major blow for the Reds. Doubts have also been cast over his ability to represent Northern Ireland at the World Cup this summer, should they qualify through the upcoming play-offs.
Bradley requires surgery to repair ‘bone and ligament damage’ to his knee but he has fortunately avoided damage to his ACL. However, the severity of his injury will still see Liverpool with limited right-back options for the remainder of the season.
The Reds signed Jeremie Frimpong over the summer to replace Trent Alexander-Arnold but he has also suffered injury setbacks this season. Arne Slot also has Joe Gomez at his disposal but the 28-year-old has found regular football hard to come by.
Gomez has made just 14 appearances in all competitions for Liverpool so far this season and the club are now considering bringing in a new right-back this transfer window.
Will Liverpool sign a replacement for Conor Bradley?
Liverpool’s backline was a growing concern before Bradley’s injury but now, they are considering adding support to the ranks to see them through to the end of the season.
According to Absolut Fussball, the Premier League champions are ‘considering’ a move for Borussia Dortmund’s Julian Ryerson. The outlet describes the 28-year-old as a ‘provider of assists’ as well as a ‘powerful striker’.
The Norway international has six assists so far this season and he has caught Liverpool’s attention following his impressive display during BVB’s 3-3 draw against Eintracht Frankfurt last time out in the Bundesliga.
Dortmund head coach Niko Kovac praised Ryerson after the Frankfurt match, describing him as a ‘Viking’ within the game.
“That's how he plays football. He doesn't hold back, neither on himself nor on the opponent, and he generates a lot of drive going forward.”
Liverpool admire full-backs who can get forward and contribute to the attack when needed, which is why the combination of Alexander-Arnold and Andy Robertson worked so well when the two played opposite each other.
Ryerson is under contract with Dortmund until 2028. He joined the club in 2023 to replace Thomas Meunier, who was injured at the time. A week after his arrival, the right-back scored his first goal in black and yellow, making an instant impact.
Ryerson has featured in all but three games for Dortmund this season, across all competitions including the Champions League. BVB are currently tenth in the UCL standings, just one point behind Liverpool as they battle for a place in the top eight.
