The Athletic’s piece from the Valley on Saturday night noted some interesting things from the touchline.
New manager Liam Rosenior kept things largely the same as under Enzo Maresca, but did bring in a few new ideas.

Writer Cerys Jones noted he was talking to his wide men, Jamie Gittens and Alejandro Garnacho a lot during the game:
“[The pair] were pushed higher and wider, which Rosenior reminded them to continue to do during the match.”
Of course the need for width from those wingers is extra important in the 3-2-2-3 setup that Rosenior used. There are no full backs to give you natural width – Hato on the left was coming inside as a midfielder, and on the right Acheampong was effectively a central defender.
So all the team’s width was to be provided by the two players wide of the front three. Garnacho and Gittens better get the message soon, as there’s a lot of competition to play in those places.
The latter looked good in moments when he squared up defenders on the edge of the box, but in general the crossing provided by both was pretty poor. Marc Guiu had no service for the vast majority of the game because they couldn’t deliver.
