Man United are reportedly keen on signing a top class Chelsea star in a shock transfer move.

The Red Devils can’t forget that they’re also in the middle of the January transfer window, and they need to think about improving their squad too. United still has a chance to get themselves into the top four, but they need more difference-makers in the team.

Reports emerged over the weekend suggesting that Man United could strengthen their attack by signing a Chelsea star for a potential club-record fee, it would be one of the biggest transfers in Premier League history.

Cole Palmer could transform Man United

Palmer is a boyhood Man United fan, and the Red Devils need to sign a long-term Bruno Fernandes replacement, so it seems a perfect fit. Fernandes’ contract is due to expire at the end of next season, and Palmer could become Man United’s new creative outlet in attack.

Furthermore, Palmer’s goal-scoring record speaks for itself, he has netted 47 goals, and 29 assists in 109 games since he joined Chelsea from Manchester City in 2023. However, this season he’s struggled with injury again, and so Man United have to exploit that, and try to persuade Chelsea to sell him.

It would be a hefty fee, though, as his contract is due to run at Stamford Bridge until 2033. It is said United would likely have to break their club transfer record of £89m for Paul Pogba if they want to secure Palmer’s signature.

Palmer could replace Fernandes

Fernandes’ future at United is very uncertain, as he was close to leaving Old Trafford in the summer, as Man United wanted to cash in on their captain due to interest from the Saudi Pro League.

However, the midfielder didn’t want to leave Old Trafford, and so he stayed, but the expectation is that Man United will let Fernandes leave when his contract expires in June 2027, leaving a massive gap in the Red Devils’ midfield.

Palmer would be the ideal replacement for Fernandes when the Portuguese midfielder leaves, as he has the creativity of Bruno, and you would argue he’s even better on the ball, and a deadly goal-scorer, he could be someone to build around at United, and with the likes of Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo and Benjamin Sesko in attack with him, what a front four that could become.
