Antonio Rudiger and striker rivalling Erling Haaland, Chelsea fans name who club should sign this month

The January transfer window is about to reach its halfway point, yet Chelsea have not done any business.

At the club, there have been changes, with Enzo Maresca departing and Liam Rosenior arriving.

Rosenior has got off to a dream start as Chelsea manager after watching his new side beat Charlton Athletic 5-1 in the FA Cup third round.

Chelsea have spent more than £1bn on transfers since their takeover in 2022 but are miles away from challenging for the Premier League title. Who needs to be held to account and why? 💰

However, in terms of player arrivals, there have not been any yet, which is likely to disappoint plenty of supporters.

Chelsea fans recommend Antonio Rudiger, Igor Thiago and more as January targets

Here on TalkingPoints, Chelsea fans have already made it clear that they want to see reinforcements this month, particularly in defence.

The Chelsea Chronicle recently asked supporters who they would bring in if they could only make one signing in the January transfer window, and Antonio Rudiger, Marc Guehi, and Valentin Barco were all mentioned.

One Chelsea fan would snap up Brentford’s Igor Thiago after the terrific season he is having at west London rivals Brentford.

The 24-year-old has scored 16 goals in 21 appearances in the Premier League, meaning that only Erling Haaland has found the back of the net more times than him. The Manchester City star has only scored four more goals than Thiago, so the Brazilian has him in sight in the race for the Golden Boot.

The above are not bad names. However, Rudiger is 32 now, while Chelsea already have Liam Delap, Joao Pedro and Marc Guiu for the striker position. They are also awaiting the arrival of Emanuel Emegha in the summer.

When you consider all of that, the Blues signing Rudiger or Thiago seems highly unlikely.

What Chelsea fans can expect in this transfer window

Unfortunately for Chelsea supporters who are hoping for the club to sign someone new this month, it does not look like much business is going to take place at Stamford Bridge.

Getting rid of unwanted players is probably what Chelsea are going to focus on. Raheem Sterling remains at the Blues, but his employers will be keen for that to change before deadline day.

Ultimately, do not expect to see Rudiger or Thiago in blue this season.
