Barnsley came out flying from the blocks and nearly broke the deadlock inside 30 seconds when Davis Keillor-Dunn’s header hit the base of the bar.

Jeremie Frimpong doubled the Reds’ lead with another superb strike, cutting inside before rifling a shot into the roof of the net.
Adam Phillips pulled one back for the visitors, capitalising on Szoboszlai’s poor back pass to slot the ball past Giorgi Mamardashvili.
Captain Virgil van Dijk nearly restored Liverpool’s two-goal lead with a volley, but goalkeeper Murphy Cooper parried his effort onto the crossbar.
Szoboszlai later atoned for his earlier mistake, making a crucial headed clearance to preserve Liverpool’s lead.
At the other end, Florian Wirtz squandered a big chance to get on the scoresheet, making a good run to meet Szoboszlai’s cross, only to see his effort fly over the bar.
Wirtz eventually get his goal with a superb strike following a brilliant team move. The German then assisted Hugo Ekitike in stoppage time to wrap up the scoring.
Liverpool will now face Brighton & Hove Albion at Anfield in the FA fourth round .
