Donovan Mitchell is having an impressive season in year four with the Cleveland Cavaliers. He is on track to make his seventh consecutive All-Star Game.
While Mitchell continues to have success on the court, he’s also making moves off the court. Recently, it was announced that the University of Louisville and Mitchell are doing a jersey collaboration.
Mitchell spent two years at Louisville where he was a First-team All-ACC selection his sophomore year. Though he’s in the NBA, Mitchell continues to have strong connections to Louisville and the basketball department.
Donovan Mitchell and Louisville Collab on Jersey
According to Louisville’s athletic department, they unveiled a jersey collaboration with Mitchell. Both the men and women basketball teams will debut the jersey this month. The men are set to debut the jersey on Jan. 13 and the women will debut them on the 25th.
The red jersey displays Mitchell’s logo, a spider, on the top right side of the jersey and the shorts feature a spider web on the side. These jerseys are currently available for purchase online. Louisville is an Adidas school and Mitchell is signed with Adidas. In 2017, he signed a multi-year shoe deal with the company and after his impressive rookie year, Adidas constructed a new multi-million-dollar contract giving Mitchell his own signature shoe.
Mitchell’s first shoe, the Adidas D.O.N. Issue #1 debuted in July of 2019. “My message with this shoe is that it’s for kids … who believe that they can do anything,” Mitchell said. “I want my story to be told as such — this was so unexpected for me. You know, it’s only my second year in the NBA, to now have a shoe … I want to help inspire kids so they feel like they can do anything.”
Fast forward to the present and Mitchell has multiple shoes out with Adidas and continues to make an impact on and off the court.
Donovan Mitchell’s Time at Louisville
As a freshman at Louisville, Mitchell mostly came off the bench. He appeared in 31 games and made five starts. He averaged 7.4 points and 3.4 rebounds per game. Mitchell made a significant jump in year two.
He appeared in 34 games and started in every game except one. On the court he showed that he could score in numerous ways and he displayed a ton of athleticism. He averaged 15.6 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 2.7 assists per game.
After his sophomore season, Mitchell decided to declare for the 2017 NBA Draft and the rest is history. Even though Mitchell made it to the league and is having an impressive career, there were times where he had some doubts.
“I was not supposed to be here. I think that’s why I appreciate it so much,” Mitchell said in an article back in 2019. “There were even times where I told myself. ‘You’re not good enough.’ And I’m talking about when I was at Louisville. But we’re here.”
Despite what Mitchell went through during his time in college, he proved himself wrong and is now one of the premier players in the league.
