Kings sign former NBL star and NBA veteran in recruitment coup

The Sydney Kings have pulled off a major coup, signing former NBA player and ex-NBL star Torrey Craig to replace injured guard Bul Kuol, according to CODE Sports.

Kuol was ruled out for the remainder of the NBL season with a torn ACL, leaving a key gap in the Kings’ backcourt and defensive rotation, with questions immediately arising over whether they would pursue an import replacement.

Craig brings more than 450 NBA games of experience, including 80 playoff appearances, providing the type of leadership and high-level experience the Kings need to remain championship contenders.

The American started his career in Australia with the Cairns Taipans in 2014 before joining the Brisbane Bullets in 2016-17, where he was named NBL Defensive Player of the Year and earned All-NBL Second Team honours.

Craig’s NBL performances led to an NBA career across six clubs, most recently with the Boston Celtics, and he has proven he can perform in high-pressure situations on the biggest stage.

The signing is a bold and aggressive response from the Kings’ management, showing their determination to compete at the highest level and contend for a championship despite losing Kuol for the season.

Craig’s defensive intensity, experience, and familiarity with the NBL make him a perfect fit for a Kings side that has thrived on defensive identity this season.

For Sydney, the move not only fills a major roster gap but adds a proven player capable of guiding the team through the stretch run and into the playoffs, who should slot in seamlessly.

With Craig now part of the roster, Sydney has signalled that their ambitions remain high and that they are aiming for nothing less than the title this season.

The Kings’ current purple patch, bolstered by Craig’s recruitment, now makes that a distinct possibility.
