The former Jazz franchise star believes that Keyonte George should be in LA in mid-February.
Even though he's no longer a part of them anymore, Donovan Mitchell still has no love lost for the Utah Jazz.
Particularly, he likes what he is seeing from his former team's ascending young star.
In the postgame of the Cleveland Cavaliers' 123-112 Monday home loss against the Jazz, Mitchell offered his praise to Keyonte George for a big-time performance to lead his team. For the Cavs star, the Utah sensation has to be named an All-Star.
“I want to highlight the Jazz. They came in there and outplayed us. It started with Keyonte George, who deserves to be an All-Star," Mitchell said. "Young fella that I know personally, and I’m excited to see his progress just from last year to this year.”
Mitchell and the Cavs simply had no answer in containing George, who went off with a 32-point performance along with nine dimes to lead the Jazz's victory.
The No. 16 pick of the 2023 Draft, George emerged as Utah’s point guard of the future. The 23-year-old has taken a huge leap and is demonstrating a career season, averaging 23.8 points, 6.9 assists and 4.2 rebounds in 38 games.
Out of his statistical jump, George stands as one of the early favorites for the Most Improved Player award and might be in contention for this year's All-Star Game.
Despite their 14-25 record progress this 2025-26, Mitchell sees a bright future in Utah because of George, Lauri Markkanen and Walker Kessler.
"The coach [Will Hardy] he works with is a close friend of mine," Mitchell added, "so to see them continue to take that step is amazing to see."
