Liverpool are reportedly expected to receive “formal communication” from Juventus over the potential signing of winger Federico Chiesa.
The 28-year-old’s future at Anfield continues to be in doubt, having consistently struggled to be an important part of Arne Slot’s plans.
Chiesa has never fully seemed to convince the Dutchman, even though some would like to see him feature more often than he is, especially with Mohamed Salah away on Africa Cup of Nations duty.
It certainly wouldn’t be a surprise if the Italian was no longer a Liverpool player come the end of this year, and now a new update has emerged regarding his future.
According to TuttoSport [via Sport Witness], a bid from Juve for Chiesa is “practically ready”, as they look to bring him back to the club after selling him to the Reds in the summer of 2024.
It is claimed that the player himself is keen on the move, with a loan switch that turns into a permanent transfer mentioned as a possibility in the report.
A case of when Chiesa leaves Liverpool not if?
Chiesa’s time at Liverpool feels like it is slowly reaching its natural conclusion, even though selling him in the January transfer window would be a bizarre decision, negatively affecting the lack of attacking depth for Slot.
It hasn’t worked out for him in a Reds shirt, even though there have been glimpses of his quality, with commentator Lucy Ward lauding him in the FA Cup win over Accrington Stanley this time last year:
“He has done well. He is a good player, Chiesa. This is why these Liverpool fans wanted to see him on the pitch doing what he does. Great effort that was. He just saw the space. He’s missed easier ones than these since he came on for the second half. Well done him. It’s so important that you get him fit and firing.”
A return to Juve feels like a nice outcome for Chiesa this summer, but hopefully not before he has contributed some memorable moments for Liverpool between now and the end of the season, further endearing himself to the fans in the process.
