LeBron James marked another historic milestone by becoming the first player in NBA history to reach a 23rd season.
To celebrate the achievement, the NBA and Topps introduced a special jersey patch that James will wear throughout the season with the Los Angeles Lakers.
The first game with the patch did not go in the Lakers' favor. Los Angeles lost 124-112 on the road to the Sacramento Kings, struggling to get stops as Sacramento scored at will. The Kings shot 58.4% from the field and a scorching 65.4% from three, taking full control of the game.
After the win, Sacramento took the moment to have some fun on social media. “Bad day to be a jersey patch debut,” the Kings wrote on their official X account.
Despite the result, James delivered a solid performance, finishing with 22 points, three rebounds, and four assists. Still, the Lakers' defense could not slow down the Kings' shooters, allowing open looks throughout the night.
Malik Monk stood out against his former team, scoring 26 points on efficient shooting and knocking down seven three-pointers.
