Robert Sanchez is now facing a new challenge in his aim to remain the number one goalkeeper at a top Premier League side like Chelsea.
Sanchez started every league game he was available for under Enzo Maresca, however the Italian has now been replaced by Liam Rosenior going into the new year.
With the new manager’s first game being in the FA Cup, he rotated and handed Filip Jorgensen a start, with the Denmark international looking to rebuild his Stamford Bridge prospects.

It is likely the Spain international returns to the side to face Arsenal in the Carabao Cup, however will need to make an instant impact on the new boss in order to keep his status as a regular starter.

Robert Sanchez picks David De Gea over Petr Cech as favourite goalkeeper
The goalkeeper position is one Chelsea fans are used to being secure following the long and successful tenure of Petr Cech at the club. Blues supporters will argue he is the best in the history of the league.
This is seemingly not an opinion shared by their current number one. Sanchez told the PFA that he actually idolised David De Gea growing up, likely due to the Spanish connection.
He also named the former Manchester United man as the best shot stopper he has seen, again seeming to snub the Chelsea legend.
De Gea conceded 33 goals in 28 games against the Blues while at Old Trafford, with 13 of those games ending as draws.

Petr Cech’s recent return to the pitch
John Terry believes Cech could still feature at the top level, and this is perhaps why we recently saw his return to the pitch in some capacity.
You can choose one Chelsea legend to play in Liam Rosenior’s team today. Who are you calling? 🤔

Cech featured in the Ballers league for Terry’s team in an unsuccessful bid to finish in the top four.
His latest successor at Stamford Bridge enjoyed a very strong 2025, after months of rumours that he was going to be replaced by Mike Maignan.
He has withstood that for now, however could be in danger at the end of the season when Mike Penders’ Strasbourg loan ends. Rosenior was a big fan of his in France.
