Liverpool are reportedly monitoring the transfer market in search of a defensive addition following the injury to Conor Bradley. The right-back went down unopposed during last week’s draw away to Arsenal, with Bradley stretchered off the pitch in considerable pain.
Scans later in the week showed Bradley picked up a significant knee injury and will require surgery to address the problem. While an official timescale hasn’t been provided by the club, it’s expected that Bradley’s season is likely over already, meaning Liverpool will be left short in the defensive department.
As such, it’s reported by Sky Germany that Liverpool are “urgently” scouting any possible replacements who might be available to join the club this month. However, the same outlet claims Julian Ryerson, who has been linked with a move to Anfield, isn’t currently on their list of preferred options.
Meanwhile, The Athletic are reporting that Liverpool have earmarked centre-back as the priority position heading into the summer transfer window. It comes as Virgil van Dijk enters the final 18 months of his contract, with Ibrahima Konate seemingly heading for the exit door at the end of the season.
The Premier League champions had come close to penning a deal for Marc Guehi in the summer, but a £35million transfer from Crystal Palace fell through at the 11th hour. It could be something Liverpool live to regret, as Guehi has been touted as a potential option for Premier League rivals Manchester City and Arsenal.
Liverpool had been considered the front-runners to snatch Guehi at the end of his current deal with Crystal Palace, which also expires at the end of the season. But following injuries to Ruben Dias and Josko Gvardiol, City are said to have upped the ante in their pursuit, with the 2023 European champions said to be plotting a January move instead.
Slot refused to be drawn into speculation when quizzed about Liverpool’s Guehi intentions, saying: “I never talk about transfers in public, let alone talking about a transfer from another club. My answer is always the same. We don't talk about players that are not ours."
Meanwhile, on potential transfers this month, the Liverpool man added: "I am really happy with the squad we have. All the decisions made last summer and the summer before are completely aligned with me, Richard [Hughes] and the ownership. This season has shown how talented this group is and if everyone is available, how good a team we can be."
