Barcelona could ‘move ahead’ of Manchester United and others in the race to sign LDU Quito’s Ederson Castillo.
That’s according to Bolavip, and they cover the latest on Manchester United and the La Liga winners.
On December 30th, Futbol Ecuador reported Manchester United are in direct contact with LDU Quito. They also stated the South American club have set a €6.4m asking price.
Journalist Michael Rosero took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to report that the 17-year-old has travelled to Barcelona. He even suggested the player could join the Catalan club. Bolavip pick on that and cover Real Madrid and Manchester United interest.
Los Blancos have already had positive reports about the Ecuador U17 international. He’s also attracting attention from the Premier League, where Manchester United are one of the ‘most interested’ teams.
These two clubs have to be wary about Barcelona as the Catalan club could take the lead to sign the youngster.
Manchester United may need to hurry
Olé relay comments from LDU Quito president Isaac Álvarez. He has now confirmed the young midfielder made a trip to Spain for a trial with Barcelona.
“It’s official, we tried to keep it discreet, but Ederson went to do an internship in Barcelona. He will only be there for a limited time and will return afterwards. We are keeping an eye on his performance,” he said.
“He is part of the first team, then we will see what steps to take if the case arises [that Barca show interest]. We want to guide him, take care of him, help him grow and ensure he develops positively because he is one of the jewels we have in our youth teams.”
Manchester United may have to act fast to avoid the risk of losing Castillo to Barcelona. Should the Red Devils secure his services, the player won’t be able to arrive in the UK until he turns 18 years of age in December.
