Opinion: Unlike Enzo Maresca, Liam Rosenior believes in Chelsea squad player who's going to be key vs Arsenal

Chelsea face Arsenal in the first leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final tie this Wednesday.

Enzo Maresca got Chelsea this far in the competition, but he has since left the club and been replaced by Liam Rosenior.

The change has been good for Jorrel Hato, who was often overlooked by Maresca before his departure.

Hato excelled against Charlton Athletic last weekend, but the defender is not the only player who is set to benefit from Rosenior’s arrival.

Liam Rosenior continues to put trust in Andrey Santos after time together at Strasbourg

The biggest winner from Rosenior replacing Maresca in the Stamford Bridge dugout is arguably Andrey Santos.

Rosenior started the midfielder in the 5-1 victory over Charlton and kept him on the pitch for the full 90 minutes.

With it being a cup tie against a Championship side, perhaps Maresca would have done the same thing. Whatever the case, Rosenior was happy for Santos to play the entire match at The Valley.

The 21-year-old is someone Rosenior clearly believes in after making him central to his plans at Strasbourg.

In total, Santos played 34 games under Rosenior, scoring 11 goals across those appearances. On more than one occasion, Santos was even given the captain’s armband.

It is not the kind of trust that Maresca showed after handing him just four starts in the Premier League this season.

Santos could not quite build on his amazing display against Burnley back in November, and Maresca pretty much dumped him after that.

Andrey Santos likely to start against Arsenal

There is a possibility that Reece James features in the Arsenal game on Wednesday, but right now, the defender and Cole Palmer both look like doubts.

Moises Caicedo is also suspended, so it will be interesting to see what Rosenior does with his midfield.

Everything is pointing towards a start for Santos. Potentially having to come up against Declan Rice, the Brazilian could be key for the Blues.

SCENARIO: Reece James and Cole Palmer are both unavailable for the Arsenal game. What does your midfield look like? Who are you playing in the No.10 position?

If the match does not go to plan, Chelsea will have the opportunity to try and correct things in the second leg. But their record at the Emirates is poor.

It is why Santos and Co need a win at Stamford Bridge if they want to make it to Wembley.
