Liverpool have a priority transfer target for 2026
Liverpool came within a whisker of bringing the centre-back to Anfield last summer and remain heavily in pursuit of his signature. The Reds are eager to finally see the deal over the line after Crystal Palace dropped out of talks in the 11th hour last time.
It has been reported that Guehi prefers the idea of signing for Liverpool over any other club, but a new update claims the transfer race is still very much ‘wide open’ at this point.
Will Liverpool sign Marc Guehi this year?
Despite reports that Liverpool have become front-runners to sign Guehi, his next move is still uncertain. According to Sky Sports’ Kaveh Solhekol, there is currently ‘no favourite’ in the race for the England international.
Guehi is reportedly ‘taking his time’ to consider all options available to him before making a final decision. Liverpool are naturally one of the main names linked with the centre-back, as defence is now a serious area of concern for Arne Slot.
Ibrahima Konate remains uncommitted to new terms, meaning the likelihood of him leaving Anfield this year continues to grow. Joe Gomez is also a doubt after he came close to signing for AC Milan over the summer.
Meanwhile, Giovanni Leoni remains side-lined with an ACL injury, making the centre-back position a top priority for strengthening for the Premier League champions.
Liverpool are reportedly ‘pushing’ to sign Guehi on a free transfer in the summer once his contract with Palace expires.
“Guehi knows exactly what Liverpool’s plans are for him and how he would fit in at Anfield,” the Sky Sports update reads.
Arsenal, Man City and Bayern Munich all want Marc Guehi
Liverpool agreed personal terms with Guehi over the summer but they will need to convince him again. There is a lot of competition in the frame for the England international right now.
Manchester City are looking to sign Guehi this month due to their own centre-back concerns. Josko Gvardiol, Ruben Dias and John Stones are all ruled out, while the latter’s future in general has been cast into doubt alongside Nathan Ake.
City will reportedly need to make Crystal Palace an offer they can’t refuse if they want to sign Guehi this month. So far, that has not happened. The Eagles would be looking for a similar bid to the £35 million they accepted from Liverpool last summer.
Arsenal are also looking to sign Guehi but their situation is less urgent than Liverpool and Man City. Mikel Arteta has strength in his defence and stalwarts Gabriel and William Saliba recently signed new contracts as well. Regardless, the Gunners remain active in this Guehi chase.
Bayern Munich provide an overseas presence as they are also considering a move for the Palace star once his contract ends. Their situation is superior to the others though, as they are currently the only club able to speak with him over pre-contract negotiations.
