Chelsea cult hero set to join Michael Carrick at Man United

Chelsea dealt with their managerial vacancy swifly and effectively, and they’re already reaping the rewards after a 5-1 win over Charlton.

Liam Rosenior has already won some skeptical Chelsea fans over after the Blues’ FA Cup victory, but there’s a sterner test against Arsenal up next.

A trip to Hull City awaits Chelsea in the next round of the FA Cup, which will be an interesting game for Rosenior, who played 161 times for the Tigers.

However, Chelsea isn’t the only club that has made some changes off the field recently, as Man United has sacked Ruben Amorim and is replacing him with Michael Carrick.

And it appears as if the former Man United midfielder is set to call upon a former Chelsea cult hero.

Steve Holland to take up a role at Manchester United

Steve Holland played a huge part in Chelsea’s most successful era, serving an incredible eight-year tenure from 2009 to 2017. He remarkably survived the tenures of six different world-class managers, including Jose Mourinho, Antonio Conte, and Carlo Ancelotti.

His cult hero status was achieved through winning two Premier League titles, the FA Cup, the League Cup, and both the Champions League and Europa League during his time at Stamford Bridge.

But most neutrals will recognise him from his full-time role with England and Gareth Southgate.

However, now he’s stepping back into the club realm at Manchester United.

According to Sami Mokbel, Steve Holland is to be part of Michael Carrick’s backroom team at Man Utd, and will take up the role of his number two.

Where has Steve Holland been recently?

After leaving alongside Gareth Southgate in the England setup, Steve Holland has had an eventful journey.

In December 2024, he took his first major head coach role in over 15 years by joining the Japanese J1 League side Yokohama F. Marinos. However, it didn’t go to plan, as after a difficult start to the 2025 season, where the team won only one of their first 11 league matches, Holland was sacked in April 2025.

Whilst taking full control of a team may not look like his thing right now, there’s no denying that a man of his experience and leadership can have a huge influence at Manchester United.

It will be strange to see him back in the Premier League at a club that isn’t Chelsea.
