Ibrahima Konate is hurtling towards his Liverpool contracting expiring at the end of the season.

Liverpool have reportedly tabled three separate contract proposals to keep Konate at Anfield, but the France international has yet to commit his future to the club. The sticking points appear to be both financial and structural.

Currently earning around £150,000 per week – double the £70,000 figure initially reported – Konate is reportedly seeking wages in the region of £200,000 per week, representing a significant increase on his existing deal. Additionally, the defender has expressed disappointment with Liverpool’s contract structure, which is heavily weighted toward performance-based incentives rather than guaranteed money.

Konate’s bargaining position hasn’t been helped by an inconsistent 2025-26 campaign that has seen him draw heavy criticism from fans and pundits alike, although he has since improved from his early-season blunders.

Now David Ornstein has provided an alarming update, asserting that the expectation is Konate will leave at the end of his contract expiring in the summer:

“Liverpool seem to be among those keeping their powder dry for the next market, when Ibrahima Konate is on track to exit due to his contract expiring. There has been no breakthrough on new terms.”

“That, plus the deals of Virgil van Dijk and Gomez ending 12 months later, means the heart of defence will be an area of focus.”

Liverpool supporters will draw hope from last season’s contract sagas involving Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk, both of whom eventually signed new deals in April 2025 despite their contracts winding down. This precedent suggests there’s still time for the 26-year-old to reach an agreement with the club.

However, the lingering fear is that Konate’ s situation mirrors Trent Alexander-Arnold’s recent departure, with the right-back joining Real Madrid as his contract neared expiry after months of stalled negotiations.
