The Athletic’s deal sheet is out for this week at Chelsea, and while it doesn’t promise much in terms of big spending, it does have a couple of interesting notes about players the Blues are looking at.

It confirms that Chelsea made an enquiry for Antoine Semenyo at the end of last month, which shows a new attacker remains on the agenda.
They add that’s not the only position the club are thinking about:
“Chelsea also want to buy a midfielder and a defender. They have players in mind, and if they can bring forward their plans to recruit them now, instead of in the close-season, the club will do so.”
But we’ve really heard nothing concrete on any front, in any position. There’s just nothing on the wire right now. In the summer we can see a highly priced option added in each part of the team, but those deals just don’t tend to go down in January.
The exception would be if we are targeting a player coming towards the end of their contract and want to get a jump on the deal in January. But right now, there’s no smoke, and so we can’t predict any fire.
In other news…
Chelsea’s transfer activity is not expected to be too significant – we expect Strasbourg to actually get more money spent on them than the first team this month as we look to make up for stealing their manager.
A lot has been made of Liam Rosenior’s impact at Chelsea so far, but as Pat Nevin has pointed out, actually so far all we’ve seen has been very Enzo Maresca. The new manager isn’t going to change too much, too soon, and that’s probably sensible.
