But today, it’s been suggested that the Toffees have taken a look at Ethan Nwaneri of Arsenal.
Nwaneri has struggled for game time this season, with the summer signings the Gunners made making his life more difficult.
So perhaps he could be on the move this month – and Everton are seemingly keen.
And any move to the Hill Dickinson Stadium for Nwaneri could have significance for young Harrison Armstrong.

If Nwaneri ends up signing for Everton, then presumably it would be a loan move, since he only signed a new contract with Arsenal back in August.
If he came in, then that would potentially have significance for Harrison Armstrong, who recently returned to the club from Preston North End.
Everton recalled the teenager due to a lack of options, but he can return to the Championship side on loan for the remainder of the campaign.
Rules dictate that Preston are the only club he can sign for, though.
Everton fans, would you back a move for Ethan Nwaneri this month? 🤔

Preston manager Paul Heckingbottom spoke about Armstrong’s situation last week, and while he said it’s Armstrong’s job to get into the Everton team, he also made it very clear that he’d love to have him back.
Everton landing Nwaneri makes it hard to see how he would stay.
Because the Arsenal youngster plays as an attacking or central midfielder, meaning he’d be in direct competition with Armstrong. It would not make much sense to have two players of a similar profile.
David Moyes could get his wish over Armstrong
Armstrong has impressed since returning, but there is every chance he doesn’t wind up staying.
Because Moyes recently stated that he’d like Armstrong to return to Preston to continue his football development.

He admitted: “The truth is I would like him to go back to Preston. I want Preston to get promoted. They’re in a really good position, they’re pushing for the play offs.
“I think it’s been really good for him. I’ve watched him quite regularly for Preston and he’s done a good job for them.
“If things allow me, then I will certainly send him back because I think it’s really good for his education. But we need him at the moment. If he does well then we will keep hold of him.”
