Chelsea are plotting an ambitious €300 million double deal for Barcelona midfielder Fermin Lopez and Atletico Madrid striker Julian Alvarez, according to a shock report from Spain.
The Blues are long-term admirers of both players and they registered their interest in the duo during the 2025 summer transfer window before accepting that neither deal was realistic.
However, they have now rekindled their pursuit of Fermin and Alvarez, and are prepared to pay a combined fee of €300m to bring them to Stamford Bridge this year.
That is according to Spanish publication Fichajes" href="https://www.fichajes.net/noticias/chelsea-prepara-300-millones-fichar-2-cracks-20260112.html" target="_blank">Fichajes, who speculatively claim that Liam Rosenior’s side want to bolster their first-team squad with the additions of both La Liga stars in 2026.
It’s reported that Chelsea are ready to spend €150m on each player, with Fermin identified as a key midfield target and Alvarez earmarked as a centre forward capable of displacing Liam Delap and Joao Pedro to become a regular starter for the Blues.
Both players have enjoyed a successful start to the 2025-26 season so far, with Fermin registering 17 goal contributions for Barcelona and Alvarez notching 16 goals and assists for Atletico.
Despite spending over €1.5 billion on new signings since the arrival of Clearlake Capital as their new owners in 2022, Chelsea are once again keen to dip into the market this year and they are reportedly willing to make Fermin and Alvarez their joint-most expensive signings of all time.

Chelsea to sign Fermin Lopez and Julian Alvarez?
While Chelsea have reportedly sounded out Alvarez as a possible striker signing, a transfer for the Argentina international remains unlikely given the fact that a deal has already been agreed for Strasbourg centre forward Emmanuel Emegha to join the club in July.
A deal for Fermin, however, appears far more realistic. The Blues were keen to lure him away from Camp Nou last summer and they are expected to attempt a swoop once again this year amid their pursuit of a new central midfielder.
The Spain international is one of several players on Chelsea’s transfer radar, with the west London giants also keeping close tabs on the progress of England pairing Elliot Anderson and Adam Wharton.
