Where could Konate go?
There are suggestions that the 26-year-old is holding out for a move to Real Madrid, but reports in Spain have suggested that the club have been put off from signing him on a free transfer due to a catalogue of mistakes this season.
With both Antonio Rudiger and David Alaba out of contract in June, though, they will be on the lookout for reinforcements in the centre of defence, so they may still consider Konate as a target. A transfer back to France to join Paris Saint-Germain cannot be ruled out either.
Are Liverpool lining up a replacement?
Ornstein does not expect any activity during the January transfer window. While Marc Guehi remains on the club’s radar, the Reds are only looking to sign him on a free transfer.
There are suggestions that the England international would prefer a move to Merseyside, but with Manchester City considering a bid this month, he could well end up at the Etihad instead, if Pep Guardiola’s side are willing to stump up the cash.
From the sound of things, sporting director Richard Hughes will only target a replacement for Konate in the summer.
