Liverpool transfer news: Fan favourite nears exit as Conor Bradley replacement plan clear

Liverpool's transfer plans, or lack thereof, have been a topic of discussion

Liverpool fans may have to get used to the quiet of the January transfer window, despite their lengthy injury list. Conor Bradley was the latest addition after his season-ending knee injury against Arsenal, while Rio Ngumoha being forced off against Barnsley is likely to be just cramp, according to Reds boss Arne Slot.

Alexander Isak remains out of action with a leg fracture and Mohamed Salah continues to be on Africa Cup of Nations duty thanks to Egypt's run to the semi-finals, where they take on Senegal on Wednesday.

Fan favourite's future in peril

Liverpool fans would have hoped that last season's transfer sagas surrounding Salah, Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold were a rarity, but a similar situation has occurred this year with Ibrahima Konate.

The Frenchman's contract at Anfield is set to expire at the end of the season, and the defender is therefore now eligible to sign a pre-contract agreement with clubs outside of the Premier League.

Unfortunately for Reds fans wanting the 26-year-old to extend his stay on Merseyside, The Athletic have reported that contract negotiations between the player and club have yet to reach any sort of breakthrough.

Liverpool are said to have offered three contract proposals thus far, but with terms yet to be agreed, Konate is currently heading towards an exit after five years at the club. Hometown club Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid have been linked with the France international over the past several months.

The report also states that the Reds will focus on a centre-back signing in the summer, all but ruling out a January move for long-time target Marc Guehi, who's believed to be content with holding fire on a decision on his future until his Crystal Palace contract is up at the end of the season.

Conor Bradley replacement plan grows clear

The Northern Ireland captain's injury-plagued season hit rock bottom at the Emirates Stadium last week when he suffered a serious knee injury in the 0-0 draw against Arsenal.

It was later confirmed that the 22-year-old was ruled out for the rest of the season after suffering damage to his bone and ligaments. Bradley's absence only adds to the growing injury list Slot is forced to contend with in the second half of the campaign.

The Reds were already in need of defensive reinforcements before Bradley's season was curtailed due to the ACL injury that Giovanni Leoni endured, as well as the uncertain future of Konate.

However, a permanent January arrival in Bradley's absence will not be greenlit by the club, according to The Athletic. They report that the Reds are hopeful that the full-back will be back to training for the start of pre-season this summer.

They claim that a permanent signing won't be made just to cover Bradley, but have stopped short of denying that a loan signing could be sanctioned.
