Jose Enrique says Liverpool are seriously missing player they sold after Arne Slot was overruled

As well as spending big in the summer transfer window, Liverpool let several players leave the club.

The Reds netted a decent fee for Ben Gannon-Doak, who has moved to Bournemouth after impressing on loan in the Championship last season.

Kostas Tsimikas is facing an uncertain future at AS Roma following his loan switch, while Harvey Elliott is stuck at Aston Villa, hardly featuring under Unai Emery.

Jose Enrique says Liverpool are missing Luis Diaz

Ian Wright questioned Diaz’s sale after the Arsenal stalemate last week, suggesting the Colombian could have helped Liverpool win.

Instead, the winger is now thriving at Bayern Munich, where he has scored 14 and assisted 10 in 23 matches across all competitions.

No Liverpool player has provided more goal contributions than Diaz this term, and former player Jose Enrique thinks the Reds are missing his services.

Responding to a tweet from the club wishing Diaz happy birthday, the ex-left-back wrote: “What a player, how much we are missing him.”

Whether you agree with Enrique’s sentiment or not, there can be no denying the player is in top form right now.

But he could have been bagging goals and assists at Anfield if Arne Slot got his way.

Arne Slot did not want to sell Luis Diaz

Liverpool’s attack has lacked pace for much of this season, with Cody Gakpo or Florian Wirtz often used as the primary left wingers.

The 29-year-old is obviously a lot quicker than both players, which is perhaps part of the reason Slot wanted to keep Diaz.

However, as one report explained late last year, Richard Hughes overruled the Dutchman to sanction the sale of the South American to Bayern Munich.

Was it a mistake to sell Diaz? Well, Enrique is not the only ex-Liverpool talent to bemoan his exit.

Ryan Babel commented on his sale to Bayern Munich in December, saying: “Sometimes if the right puzzles are not together, like I think one of the mistakes I believe is leaving Diaz, you know, letting him go.

“And even with Nunez, he was maybe not the striker Liverpool needed, but the work ethic he did, and had took a lot of work off Mo Salah’s pressing as well, right?
