Report: Chelsea hold meeting over deal for exciting AFCON star that Liverpool are pushing to sign

It had been believed that Chelsea would be unlikely to do any business in the January transfer window. But that was until reports emerged from France this week.

Chelsea splashed a whopping £300m in the summer on 10 new players, including Jorrel Hato, Joao Pedro and Liam Delap. It means that any potential signings in January are unlikely, and sales are needed first.

That has not stopped Chelsea being linked with numerous potential signings, especially since the arrival of manager Liam Rosenior. The gaffer is even interested in doing a deal for his old player Valentin Barco.

DECISION TIME: If Liam Rosenior gets to pick one midfielder signing this month, who should it be?💰

Plenty have been touted as targets, including Lucas Paqueta, Mile Svilar, Jacobo Ramon, and many more just in the last few days. Now, Chelsea have reportedly held a meeting to sign a £16m-rated AFCON ace.

Chelsea hold meeting over deal for Feyenoord attacker

In the summer of 2024, Paris-born Anis Hadj Moussa completed a move to Feyenoord. The winger has since had a hand in 26 goals during his 66 appearances, with 10 goals and assists coming this campaign.

Over the last few weeks, Moussa has been with Algeria’s National Team, and there was hope that Algeria could go far in the competition. But then they met Nigeria in the quarter-finals and were easily beaten.

Now, Foot Mercato claim Chelsea have held a meeting over a potential deal for the Algeria star, with many clubs supposedly keen on doing a deal for him. It is unclear what Moussa’s stance is on Chelsea.

Liverpool pushing for deal after coming close in summer

While Moussa joined Feyenoord after Arne Slot’s exit, that has not stopped the Liverpool gaffer from potentially raiding his old team. In the summer, reports said that Liverpool were close to signing Moussa.

Now, Africa Foot claim Liverpool are ‘accelerating their efforts’ to do a deal in the winter window. It was claimed in the summer that Feyenoord had slapped a £16m price tag on Moussa, given his super form.

Marseille are also supposedly keen on the attacker this month, but Chelsea have shown a clear indication that they are willing to do business this month. Even if Rosenior’s focus will be on Wednesday night.

The Blues are in Carabao Cup semi-final action as Rosenior looks to give his side a chance going into the second leg later this month, with a result on Wednesday night. Chelsea could be without Cole Palmer.
