Dallas Mavericks forward Anthony Davis is likely to have surgery to repair ligament damage in his left hand and miss several months, according to ESPN’s Shams Charania.
Charania notes that given Davis’s prognosis and the team’s direction, Davis’s season with the Mavs is essentially over after just 20 games.
Charania also reports the Mavericks are having renewed trade discussions centred around Davis, who could potentially return in time for the postseason if acquired by a contender.
> Fascinating development: The Mavericks are having renewed Davis trade talks with multiple interested teams, sources said. If moved to a playoff contender, the return timeline could allow Davis to return during the postseason while establishing himself for the long-term elsewhere. The 32-year-old was acquired from the Los Angeles Lakers approximately one year ago in the blockbuster deal that sent Luka Doncic to L.A. He’s played a total of 29 games for the Mavericks since being acquired.
In limited action this season, Davis is averaging 20.4 points per game to go along with 11.1 rebounds.
