Liverpool pushing to sign Marc Guehi next summer

The race to sign Marc Guehi remains wide open, with no clear frontrunner. The 25-year-old has entered the final six months of his contract at Crystal Palace, and Oliver Glasner has already confirmed the defender intends to leave in 2026.

“I think Marc has already told us that he doesn’t sign a new contract, so he will leave next year,” said Glasner. “The club wanted [him to stay]. They offered Marc a new contract.

“But he said, ‘no, I want to make something different’. And that’s normal. “And for us, it’s how we can deal with this situation? [What] is the best way to get this next step done? And that’s all about how we are talking together.”

Guehi’s consistent performances have attracted interest from several top Premier League clubs. Previously close to joining Liverpool last summer, the former Chelsea centre-back has no plans to renew his deal at Selhurst Park.

A fresh January move from Liverpool for Guehi cannot be ruled out, with Giovanni Leoni sidelined for the rest of the season due to a serious knee injury.

However, Crystal Palace are unwilling to sell the defender cheaply mid-season, while interest is growing across Europe ahead of his expected free-agent status.

Guehi is free to negotiate pre-contract agreements with overseas clubs but is taking his time before deciding his next move. Manchester City are prepared to move for Guehi this month, with their willingness to strike a January deal rather than wait until the summer potentially giving them an edge in the race for his signature.

According to Sky Sports, Liverpool are pushing to sign Guehi on a free transfer next summer. Guehi has previously held talks with Liverpool and is fully aware of the club’s plans for him and his potential role at Anfield.
