Sky Sports: Liverpool now working ‘urgently’ on January signing after unexpected development

Liverpool are now 'urgently' looking to sign a replacement for Conor Bradley, who suffered a serious knee injury against Arsenal, according to Sky Sports reporter Florian Plettenberg.

Bradley suffered a knee injury against Arsenal last week, with Liverpool later confirming that he will undergo surgery, placing no timeline on his possible return. GIVEMESPORT sources have confirmed that Bradley will be out for the remainder of the season, leaving Liverpool short of options in the right-back position.

Jeremie Frimpong was brought in during the summer transfer window to provide competition at right-back, but the Dutch international has been deployed further forward, with Mohamed Salah at AFCON. As a result, the Reds could now be in the market for reinforcements on the right-hand side of defence.

Liverpool Pushing to Sign New Right-Back

According to Sky Sports reporter Plettenberg, Liverpool are now 'urgently' searching to find a replacement for Bradley in the January transfer window, but he's ruled out Julian Ryerson as a possible target. Various options are now being assessed, with Bradley out for the remainder of the campaign.

Against Barnsley last time out, following Bradley's injury, Liverpool deployed Frimpong on the right-hand side of defence, with Federico Chiesa ahead of him. Chiesa rarely starts for the Reds, and wouldn't usually in a Premier League game, and with Frimpong playing further forward of late, there's little cover for Bradley.

Defensive Reinforcements a Priority for Liverpool

Signing a right-back appears to be one of Liverpool's priorities for the January transfer window, and they could look to reinforce other defensive positions in the summer.

Ibrahima Konate is out of contract as it stands, meaning he can leave the club on a free transfer. Virgil van Dijk is also reaching the latter stages of his career, so the centre-back position could become a bit of a problem in the near future.

It's unlikely to be an incredibly busy January window for the Merseyside outfit, but there's no doubt they could do with one or two fresh faces after a difficult first half of the season.
