Liverpool 'working hardest' on signing 42 g/a UCL winner who could transform Reds into Premier…

Liverpool are looking for a new star attacker to potentially replace Mohamed Salah

Despite spending a record-breaking amount of money over the summer transfer window, Liverpool are still searching for new recruits in attempt to improve their season.

The Reds dropped a staggering £446 million on new signings in 2025 and more than half of that was spent on new attackers. Florian Wirtz and Alexander Isak set new club records with their arrivals but both have been faced with criticism in their maiden season.

Mohamed Salah has also struggled to reach the level the world has become used to, with just nine goal-scoring contributions in all competitions this season. Liverpool are searching for a long-term replacement for Salah but they are also aware they need a boost now to avoid reverting back to their nightmare run of form between September and November.

Liverpool ‘doing the most work’ to sign Bradley Barcola

Arsenal are also said to be admirers of the France international but Liverpool ‘have done the most work’ in attempt to bring Barcola to the Premier League.

The 23-year-old is viewed as a serious candidate to replace Salah, whose future at Liverpool has become a big grey area. The Egyptian hasn’t started a Premier League match for Liverpool since Nottingham Forest on November 22nd. He has been in Morocco for the Africa Cup of Nations for the last five fixtures.

Liverpool are unbeaten in those games but have drawn the last three, which has been hugely frustrating for fans. The Reds’ struggle to put games away has become an issue, which is where considering a player like Barcola comes in.

Bradley Barcola could take Liverpool attack to the next level

Arne Slot has recognised ‘the need’ to further add to his front three. With Isak struggling to perform and now out injured, plus the uncertainty of Salah’s future, Liverpool may need to invest in their next superstar.

Despite being under contract until 2027, there have been many rumours suggesting the Reds could sell Salah this year.

Barcola has the ability to become Liverpool’s next clinical winger. Last season, the 23-year-old finished with 42 goal contributions in all competitions - 21 goals and 21 assists.

While it remains to be seen whether Liverpool will pursue a move for Barcola this month, waiting until the summer also makes sense. Liverpool are now 14 points adrift of league leaders Arsenal and unless the Gunners completely derail, the Reds have very little chance of catching them up.

Signing Barcola in the summer would be a huge statement of intent from Liverpool, especially if Salah does end his legendary tenure at Anfield. It’s hard to imagine a Liverpool side without Salah, so they will need to bring in someone of a similar pedigree who can both score and assist.

Salah has been a shadow of himself this season and the Reds are massively missing his usual inevitable contributions. The Egyptian was crucial during the 2024/25 title win, tallying 29 goals and 18 assists in the Premier League alone.

Would Liverpool be top of the table today if Salah was firing at his best? It’s impossible to say, but bringing in a clinical attacker could be the difference between another season like this one, and challenging for the title once again next season.
