Arsenal and Chelsea have both been targeting the same Real Madrid star over the past year, and they remain interested.
The Gunners are currently focused on their Carabao Cup semi-final against Chelsea, as they hope to book a place in the final, and have their first shot at silverware since they won the FA Cup in 2021, in Arteta’s first season.

Arteta said before the month began that the Gunners would be ‘active’ in the transfer market, but they are yet to sign anybody. Although, it is understood that they’ve been in contact over a Real Madrid star, with the turbulent times at the Bernabeu.
Xabi Alonso has just left Madrid, and Arsenal were hoping to capitalise on the uncertainty, by signing one of their players, however, the move has taken a major hit.
Arsenal target Guler to stay at Real Madrid
Both Arsenal and Chelsea have been linked to signing Real Madrid star Arda Guler, as the 20-year-old has become a real starlet at the Bernabeu. The Turkish international is developing into a world-class forward, so it is no surprise that the Premier League clubs are keen.
However, despite their interest, it is understood that Guler won’t be leaving Madrid. According to TeamTalk, Guler doesn’t want to leave, despite their current uncertainty, and as far as Real Madrid are concerned, he’s not for sale.
This is a major blow for Arsenal and Chelsea, who were targeting Guler, despite the fact he is expected to cost upwards of £78m.
The Gunners are keen on Guler’s fellow countryman
Guler isn’t the only Turkey international that Arsenal have been linked with in recent weeks, as they are also keen on Juventus forward Kenan Yildiz.
The Juventus attacker is more of a centre-forward, who plays a similar role that Kai Havertz plays at the Emirates at the moment. Although, the Gunners aren’t expected to move for him in the January transfer window.
