Chicago Bulls star a name to monitor before NBA trade deadline, Insider says

Now holding an expiring contract, the Bulls might finally deal Vucevic away after six seasons.

With three weeks left before the NBA trade deadline, the Chicago Bulls might finally move on from Nikola Vucevic.

Chicago Bulls / Schedule

According to NBA insider Jake Fischer, Vucevic is a name to watch for a potential trade as the Montenegrin star holds an expiring contract.

"He’s still putting up very efficient numbers," Fischer said in his Bleacher Report livestream. "Now that his contract is finally a one-year deal and he’s no longer on the three-year, $60 million extension that the Bulls gave him, which I think everyone around the league believed was an above-market deal, he has some more enhanced appeal than he did in years past."

For years, Vucevic has been stuck in the league's trade chatter. But given the upcoming end of his contract, the Bulls could certainly try to deal him away rather than letting him walk as a free agent.

As Chicago commits to Josh Giddey as its future, the star big man no longer appears to fit into the team’s long-term plans.

This season, the 35-year-old Vucevic remains productive. He is averaging 16.5 points, 9.3 boards and 3.6 assists in 37 games.

Contending teams that are in desperate need of a center could take a swing and go after him before the Feb. 5 key date.
