Report: Chelsea player wants to join West Ham but Liam Rosenior has other ideas

While new signings were always unlikely at Chelsea in the January transfer window, exits are much more likely with a handful of players struggling for game time or ostracised completely.

The obvious two that spring to mind are Raheem Sterling and Axel Disasi. The duo could end up in Italy this month, with Antonio Conte eyeing a surprise move for England star Sterling, branded a ‘wildcard’.

Disasi, meanwhile, is the subject of talks with AC Milan. Max Allegri’s side already boasts plenty of former Chelsea men, including Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Christopher Nkunku, Fikayo Tomori, and Christian Pulisic.

But there could be more exits before the January window comes to an end. Especially, if West Ham get their way with the Hammers now in talks to sign a player who started in Liam Rosenior’s first game.

What does Liam Rosenior need to do to overturn Enzo Maresca’s Arsenal curse?👀

West Ham open talks to sign Chelsea’s Filip Jorgensen

Back in the summer of 2024, Jorgensen joined Chelsea from Villarreal for a fee north of £20m and he played 24 times for the West London side throughout his first season at the club. But that has changed.

Jorgensen was handed only his seventh outing for Chelsea on Saturday night in Rosenior’s first game, a 5-1 win over Charlton. A show of faith from Rosenior who could start the Dane again on Wednesday night.

But TeamTalk report that West Ham have opened talks to land Jorgensen, with Nuno Espirito Santo not particularly impressed with his options between the sticks. Jorgensen is said to be keen on a move.

Nuno wants a new goalkeeper who would start ahead of Lukasz Fabianski, Alphonse Areola and summer signing Mads Hermansen. But while Jorgensen is keen to join the Hammers, Rosenior wants him to stay.

What other options do Chelsea have in goal as things stand?

If Jorgensen does get the green light to move to West Ham on loan this month, Chelsea do have Gabriel Slonina as back-up. A one-time USA star that is yet to play for Chelsea and has been on loan three times.

Then there is Mike Penders, who was excellent under Rosenior while on loan at Strasbourg. It is unclear if Chelsea can recall him this month, but as things stand, Chelsea have no plans to bring Penders back.

Chelsea have also been linked with a few goalkeepers. Mike Maignan continues to be touted with a move from Milan, but the Serie A side want to keep him. Chelsea have identified Mile Svilar as a new signing.

But as things stand, Jorgensen won’t be leaving Chelsea even if he wants to join West Ham on loan until the summer. Rosenior would rather keep him, with Jorgensen in line to start on Wednesday night.
